About Catholic Justice & Peace Commission (CJPC)

Catholic Justice and Peace Commission is an organization of the church that was established by the KCCB in 1988. Its main aim is to awaken God's people to a full understanding of justice and peace and also raise awareness, sensitize and empower individuals, groups, communities and the whole nation on justice, peace issues their respective roles and duties in addition to peace development, human advancement and human rights in light of the gospel and social teaching of the catholic church.

Our Activities

  • Empower members of SCCs with knowledge of peace and justice
  • Educate people through transformative civil education in workshops and training
  • Protection of human dignity according to social teaching of catholic church
  • Facilitate process of reconciliation between people in conflict
  • Network and build partnerships with like-minded organizations in pursuit of human rights and justice
  • Provide integrated and ongoing civil education including good and responsible citizenship
  • Conduct voters registration and voters education
  • Monitor elections and constitutional review
  • Help identify and support needy people in the SCCs
  • Lead SCCs in the Lenten Campaign and resource mobilization
  • Help keep peace and security at the SCCs and neighborhoods

Our Objectives

  • Sensitize, animate, mobilize and lobby parishioners to respond to social responsibility according to Catholic social teaching
  • Through seminars, retreat and recollection for faith formation
  • Recruit new members from Small Christian Communities, ecclesial groups, devotional groups, movements and religious institutions at the local church
  • Members are recruited/elected or nominated from each Small Christian Community (SCCs), ecclesial groups, devotional groups, movements and religious institution

Membership

  • Baptized and have clear understanding of the catholic faith
  • Christian endowed with integral morals and proven virtues
  • Be a just person and a role model
  • Christian who is committed towards justice in the society
  • Be courageous at the time of temptation and stand firm to what is just
  • Be non-judgmental
  • Be non-partisan especially in conflict management and resolution
  • Be a person of great integrity
  • God fearing and ready to suffer for what they believe to be just and right in defense of justice and peace for all, especially the weak, poor and oppressed
